Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) was hospitalized on Wednesday morning after becoming lightheaded at the gym, a spokesperson told Axios.
He was treated for dehydration and is back at work in the Capitol, the spokesperson said.
Schumer’s hospitalization comes as Senate Democrats are facing critical fights on Capitol Hill this week.
Schumer’s caucus this week is trying to tear down as much of the GOP’s mega tax and spending cut bill as possible.
Schumer and other Democratic leaders are in a high-profile confrontation with the White House over intelligence sharing regarding the U.S. strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Washington, D.C. is currently being battered by a heat wave. The city is under an extreme heat alert on Wednesday, with the heat index expected to be well over 100 degrees.
Via a spokesperson, Schumer, 74, encouraged people to drink water and stay out of the heat.
