Nancy Pelosi Asked, ‘Am I a B***h?’ After Grilling Mike Pence During 2020 Call

Nancy Pelosi asked a blunt question about herself during a tense phone call with former Vice President Mike Pence in 2020, according to a new documentary.

Pelosi was on a call with Pence about the Trump administration’s COVID-19 pandemic response when she turned and asked her documentary filmmaker daughter Alexandra: “Am I a b****?”

Pelosi grins at the camera as she listens to Mike Pence’s voice on speakerphone

“What is the point of this call,” Alexandra asked Nancy with the video camera during the call, according to footage reviewed by Politico Playbook.

“They’re checking a box,” Nancy quipped. She was doing laundry and other chores while tending to the call with Pence. At one point, Nancy unmuted herself and chided, “This has been a useful exchange.” Later, she muted herself and asked Alexandra, “Am I a b****?”

The exchange took place during a 2020 congressional recess and is featured in Alexandra’s documentary Pelosi in the House, which is set to hit HBO Tuesday at 9 p.m.

Alexandra followed her mother around Capitol Hill and in her private life to give a behind-the-scenes look at Nancy’s career. This included footage of the outgoing speaker’s immediate reaction to the Capitol riot that was featured by the Jan. 6 committee during the final public hearing in October.

Pelosi in the House is Alexandra’s 14th documentary for HBO and will also reflect her mother’s career throughout the decades, navigating contentious political battles in the lower chamber. Ironically, her mother never formally gave her permission to release the film.

“What’s she gonna do, sue her daughter? She’s not gonna sue me,” Alexandra told Vanity Fair. “I hope. I hope.”

Shortly after Republicans clinched a razor-thin majority in the House, Nancy made good on her reported 2018 deal with progressives not to go beyond another four years as the No. 1 House Democrat. She announced she would step down last month, which ushered in a new era of leadership helmed by Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

Nancy’s career as the No. 1 House Democrat spanned nearly two decades. The 82-year-old was the first female speaker of the House.
