Trump Leads Biden by 7 Points in Key Swing States

Donald Trump is leading Joe Biden in key swing states ahead of the 2024 presidential election, according to a new opinion poll, amid fresh doubts about the incumbent’s fitness for office.

The voter survey conducted by Echelon Insights found that 48 percent of swing state voters would back Trump in next year’s vote.

Pollsters, who interviewed 1,020 voters for the study, said just 41 percent would back Biden over the former president.

Cornel West, a left-wing academic who has declared his intention to run for the White House, is currently picking up 3 percent, the same survey said, peeling off potential Democrat votes from the current commander-in-chief.

West says he will guarantee good wages and education for all, while ending poverty across America.

Third candidates can be potential spoilers in U.S. presidential elections, such as the Green Party’s leader Jill Stein who ran against Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Biden has committed a number of high-profile gaffes in recent months that have prompted fresh questions about whether he can complete a second term.

The 80-year-old made a bizarre attack on NATO ally Britain by claiming his recent visit to the island of Ireland was to ensure that ‘the Brits didn’t screw around’ over the Good Friday peace agreement that largely ended years of sectarian fighting in Northern Ireland.

He also ended a speech on gun control by proclaiming ‘God save the Queen, man’ an incredible nine months after the late British monarch’s death.

The president was able to win the 2020 election after flipping the key swing states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Picking up those votes can be key to winning the White House.

When Americans cast ballots in the election, they are technically choosing the number of electoral officials who will then take part in what is known as the electoral college.

They will act upon the instructions of the electorate when choosing the head of state.

The number from each state is approximately in line with its population.

California has the most electors – 54 – while Alaska has just three of the 538 electors in total.

Each elector represents one electoral vote, and a candidate needs to gain a majority of the votes – 270 or more – to win the presidency.

But in a straight head-to-head nationwide poll, Echelon found that Biden is just ahead of Trump by 45 percent to 44 percent.

Echelon Insights survey revealed 60 percent of likely Democratic voters said they would “definitely” or “probably” back Biden in a Democratic presidential primary.

It is a further 33 percent replied they would opt to back a different Democratic candidate, with 7 percent stating they were unsure.

The Echelon Insights poll was conducted with 1,020 likely voters between June 26 and 29, with a margin of error of +/- 3.9 percentage points.
